Lesson 1: Persuasive Writing
Designed for: Special ED 9th-12th grade students participating in a modified curriculum
Standard: 10 2.4 Structure ideas and arguments in a sustained and logical fashion
Objective: Students will apply what they have learned by writing a pervasive piece that expresses their argument in a logical sequence.
Purpose: To prove you are belief in something, you must know how to use your words to get your ideas across. You must have some real information to back up your belief so others will be more willing to take your side.
Anticipatory Set: Ask students if they think heels or tennis shoes are better. With the help of a Para educator wearing tennis shoes, I will try to persuade the majority of the class that heels are better. By a show of hands I will ask students again which is better.
Input: Students will review Key Terms associated with persuasive text. Students will be provided simple examples and with a partner identify the point of view. Teacher will highlight the format for writing a persuasive essay. Students will be given another example and highlight the logical order of a persuasive essay.
Guided Practice: Students will choose their argument. Teacher will model with laptop the process of gathering information of their topic. With a partner students will highlight 3 important facts to include in their paper.
Independent Practice: Students will use the facts they gathered to write a persuasive essay. Students will type their paper on the computer and print it.
Modified: Student will use computer software to type sentences on chosen topic of persuasion.
Highest Expectation: Student will write a 4 paragraph persuasive essay and include a picture related to topic within the essay.
Conclusion: Present essay to the class.
Pursuasive Essay
No More Budget Cuts
Should the government take money from the schools districts budget? No. Why? Because, less teachers equal less education with budget cuts. You are hurting the children’s education learning process.
First reason, is that you hurt the children’s education, in which the long run hurts the society. And also, I think that we are having less teacher aides. If everyone has more teaching classes, and we can get more money.
Second reason, is that cutting school supplies limit teachers in the way of the teaching area society budget. And also, not having proper up to date books. And will not prepare for the good knowledge future forever and ever.
Third reason, is that budget cutting can also affect all the recreational classes. Such as music classes, after school programs, clubs, and sports etc. The children need these classes to show leadership, and learn playing and responsibility. They could have more help services.
In conclusion, to finish, is that my thoughts and beliefs are that the government should not take any budget cuts out of education. Because, it will drastically affect teachers and all children and their bright future. And that’s why I choose my topic about the cutting school budgets problems.

Lesson 2: Power point
Standard: Communication 2.6 Demonstrate use of learning tools by following technical directions (specialized software programs and in access guides to World Wide Web sites on the Internet)
Objective: Student will understand the importance of technology by searching for information on a given general topic. Students will then place information into a word document including a picture or a power point of at least 3 slides.
Purpose: In the world today, Technology is all around us and very important to understand and feel comfortable.
Anticipatory Set: Raise your hand if you know some one with a cell phone. Keep your hand up if you know someone who has a computer. Keep your hand up if you ever played games on a cell phone or computer.
Input: Lets think back to the times we have used the computer for research. Review key computer terms such as Internet and search engines. As a class we will review our power point on Classroom Rules. Students will be given a guideline to creating a power point. In small groups students will read the hand out. Students will look back at the Class Rules Slides to connect the guidelines.
Guided Practice: With topic information students will work with a partner and aid to create a power point or word document.
Conclusion: Partners will present their power point or word document to the class.
Levels of Modification: 1-Important facts with a picture
2- 3 Power point slides with at least 1 picture. No transitions required
